Bathrooms are different to kitchens, or bedrooms in the fact that they are constantly exposed to water and moisture. Moisture plays a massive role in the life of paint and the growth of mould. Another factor to consider when painting a bathroom is its exposure to natural sunlight, oil based paint tends to yellow in a lack of natural light. Before we get into the nitty gritty, we always prep the surface we are painting and the surroundings. Any areas and surfaces that are not being painted will be covered in drop sheets and plastic film. For walls, we’ll fill in any holes and cracks and sand them out so they are ready for painting. If you’ve got some wallpaper in your bathroom, we will remove this and refinish it in preparation for the paint. We also examine the existing condition of the paint, checking to see if it was an oil-based or water-based enamel. We then prime and paint, using a special bathroom designated primer and paint, preventing fading and corrosion. A hard wearing, water-based enamel goes on also, which aids in moisture resistance and prevents yellowing. After we are done, it is important to leave the surface to dry for at least 24 hours without any moisture in the air.
